Dog Tunes

It’s James Cormier with 4 new songs for Dog Tunes for August 30-Sept. 7/10! This week… more Ozzy! More 3 Days Grace! Jimmy Eat World returns! And a band from Nova Scotia! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

OZZY OSBOURNE – LIFE WON’T WAIT

Second single from the latest, and successful, album ‘Scream’. This single has a vibe that’s a cross between ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’… and ‘See You On the Other Side’. So yeah…it’s good. Ozzy says he’s not planning on retiring any time soon… because he has nothing to retire to. Plus… he’s proving he’s still important on the musical landscape.

THREE DAYS GRACE – WORLD SO COLD

3rd single from ‘Life Starts Now’. They are starting to crank out rock hits with scary consistency. Plus they have such upbeat outlooks on life… World So Cold… you can hear the positivity. I keep forgetting…sarcasm doesn’t work in printed form.

JIMMY EAT WORLD – MY BEST THEORY

Their new album coming out September 28 is called ‘Invented’. They got their name from to brothers, Jim and Ed, who were fighting, and Ed got his revenge by drawing his brother, who got his way most of the time, eating the whole planet earth… the caption ‘Jimmy eat world’. Cool… and tasty.

SLOWCOASTER –WAR ON WAR

A reggae-influenced band from Cape Breton. Yes… you read that right. Nary a fiddle here… I think… these guys use whatever instruments they dig. They are a jam band… I’ve seen them live… and they groove. This is a cool song… I think you will dig it.

The D.U.M.B. (Distractions Undermining Motorist Behaviour) Car, rolled into the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition and Moe was asked to stop by and try it out. The D.U.M.B. Car is a driver distraction simulator that is designed to encourage Canadian drivers to think about what they are doing behind the wheel.

It’s James Cormier with 3 new songs for Dog Tunes for August 23-29/10! This week… a band from Utah… new stuff from a reggae tinged Toronto group… and a huge 90’s group reunites!

NEON TREES- ANIMAL

They were popular in their home city of Provo, Utah… but then they opened up for the Killers… they signed a record deal… and now their album “Habits” has spawned a hit. Did I mention they were from Utah? They sound very UK. I searched for rock bands from Utah…expecting to see nothing… but The Used formed there. Plus… Donnie and Marie Osmond… and you know they are hard core.

BEDOUIN SOUNDCLASH – MOUNTAIN TOP

The guys from Toronto are back… after Jay Malinowski did his solo thing. “Light the Horizon” comes out September 14th.

SOUNDGARDEN – BLACK RAIN

After the demise of AudioslaveChris Cornell did his solo thing…and that was cool. Then he sat and thought… wait… I know some guys that can play and know my cool songs…and I know their cool songs... maybe we could play together again. So they have. New tour… a retrospective album “Telephantasm” comes out September 28th… it features this song they recorded originally for “Badmotorfinger”…but didn’t make the cut. Reunited…and it feels so good.

It’s James Cormier with 5 new songs for Dog Tunes for August 9-15/10! This week… 2 very different songs about dancing…one features a legend, the other a new Canadian group… another new Canadian group… Stone Sour returns... and Maxim Magazines hottest lady of 2010… who can sing as well! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

STONE SOUR – SAY YOU’LL HAUNT ME

‘Audio Secrecy’ is the album… though I’m sure they don’t want to keep their new audio a secret. It comes out September 7. The band is from Iowa…and features the lead singer of Slipknot, Corey Taylor. Alright, wait… the lead singer of Slipknot is from Iowa? Really? Not too many twisted rock stars come from Iowa. I think. Is he angry over corn? I guess we’ll never know. Enjoy the awesome new tune.

KATY PERRY – TEENAGE DREAM

Maxim magazine, or AskMen.com or one of those publications that I never read, said that she’s the hottest lady of 2010. I wasn’t so sure…but then I saw the front cover of Rolling Stone magazine…she makes a good case. This is the title track off her latest album… in stores August 24. Did I mention she marrying this guy. He’s funny… but not that funny.

SWEET THING – CHANGE OF SEASONS

A 5 piece band from Toronto. So they know seasons. The hockey regular season… then the playoffs…or as Leafs fan know it… golf season. Ha ha… I know… easy and lame. Anyhoo… They like to play the rock and pop music…and they sound pretty good at it. Self-titled debut comes out August 17th..

MY DARKEST DAYS – PORN STAR DANCING

I have no idea what they are singing about. It’s foreign to me. Chad Kroeger of Nickelback co-wrote, produced, and put background vocals on this track. Like the old Bryan Adams on Glass Tiger’s Don’t Forget Me When I’m Gone trick. Just another step of Chad taking over the universe. He’s more unstoppable than Lebron’s foot out of Cleveland’s door. Great tune.

ROBERT PLANT – ANGEL DANCE

He was in Led Zeppelin. He’s had an awesome solo career. His last album he did with Alison Kraus won Grammys. He has a new album called ‘Robert Plant and the Band of Joy’ in stores September 13. Did I mention he was in Led Zeppelin? I did… good… I thought that might be important.

It’s James Cormier with 1 new song for Dog Tunes for August 3-9/10! This week… Linkin Park has a new one! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

LINKIN PARK – THE CATALYST

It’s the debut single from their album ‘A Thousand Suns’, which hits stores September 14. I remember a few of my friends say that these guys were just a fad… same as all the rest of the ‘rap/rock’ bands. They still exist…they still thrive… and they are more than just ‘rap/rock’. Good stuff.

It’s James Cormier with 2 new songs for Dog Tunes for July 19-25/10! This week… a second helping from Lifehouse… and the return of Canadian International Rock Stars! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

LIFEHOUSE – ALL IN

This is the second single from their album ‘Smoke and Mirrors’. They don’t need smoke and mirrors to wow you… they just give us good songs. I know ‘All In’ is a poker term…but in this case… he means he’s ‘all in’ when it comes to his relationship. He’s putting himself out there. Scary stuff.

FINGER ELEVEN – LIVING IN A DREAM

There are some bands that you say ‘when is there new stuff coming out’… and you say it at least monthly… usually bi-weekly. And now that it’s here… it’s just too much. Get used to hearing this tune. Their last lead tune from an album… which was the song Paralyzer… just topped the Big Top 50 for the year 2007… so yeah…we’re excited. The new album is yet to be titled…and it comes out October 5.

It’s James Cormier with 5 new songs for Dog Tunes for July 12-18/10! This week… second helpings from Slash and STP… 2 Canadian bands continue their chart assaults… and the return of Montreal music makers! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

ARCADE FIRE – READY TO START

Their new album called “The Suburbs” is coming out August 3/10. The band from Quebec continues to grow it’s fan base, get on the radio more, but still be cool with the critics. They are doing it all. Fellow announcer Chris VanTassel said it had kind of a ‘Cure’ feel to the song. I can hear that. Remember the movie the Burbs with Tom Hanks… surprisingly good…despite the appearance of Corey Feldman.

BILLY TALENT – DIAMOND ON A LANDMINE

Billy Talent III’. Who says the third installment of any trilogy is always the weakest? I don’t…thanks to this album… and Toy Story 3. That’s 2 Tom Hanks’ film references already... great song BTW. Has a similar riff to the Police’s “Roxanne” at the start.

HEDLEY – HANDS UP

At the MMVA’s… Katy Perry stated that she had discovered Hedley this trip to Canada. I know what you’re thinking… what is James doing watching the MMVA’s. It’s not for the Cyrus/Bieber collaboration… I can tell you that. Hedley continues to put out hits… they can’t help it.

SLASH feat. MYLES KENNEDY – BACK FROM CALI

Slash’s solo album has not disappointed. Myles Kennedy used to be the lead singer of Alter Bridge… which used to be Creed…but they kicked out Scott Stapp and got Myles. Creed got back together, and Myles is now the tour singer for Slash. Who got the better end of the deal? I think Myles is okay with what transpired.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS – TAKE A LOAD OFF

They are awesome. Song is awesome. Album is awesome. In an unrelated story, ice cream is awesome

It’s James Cormier with 1 new song for Dog Tunes for June 28 – July 5/10! This week… the return of pop/rock/R&B hitmakers! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

MAROON 5 - MISERY

Their new album called “Hands All Over” is coming out September 21/10. This will be a huge summer hit. It’s funny… it’s about being sad… but I smile when I hear it. It has nothing to do with the Stephen King novel that turned into a movie.  BTW, it seems lead singer Adam Levine will sing with anyone and everyone… K’NaanRihannaSlash. I can’t wait for his duet with The Wiggles.

It’s James Cormier with 3 new songs for Dog Tunes for June 21-27/10! This week… 3 awesome bands! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

AIRBOURNE – BLONDE, BAD, AND BEAUTIFUL

They do AC/DC almost as well as AC/DC. That’s all good. Album is “No Guts No Glory”. It’s filled with rock songs. It is good. This song describes most of the actresses in Hollywood. By the way, they're playing at the Palace in Halifax on July 28.

ALICE IN CHAINS – LESSONS LEARNED

Another hit from first post-Layne Staley album “Black Gives Way to Blue”. We missed them, and now we’re embracing them. We wish Layne was still with us, but this is an excellent album nonetheless. By the way… that’s pronounced ‘lernd’, not ‘ler-nehd’. I sounded silly the first time.

ONEREPUBLIC - SECRETS

Latest album is ‘Waking Up’. We played their first single off the album ‘All The Right Moves’. Lead singer and main songwriter, Ryan Tedder, has written and produced for many artists…including this one from Kelly Clarkson.

It’s James Cormier with 3 new songs for Dog Tunes for June 14-20/10! This week… a legendary Canadian rock band… a Canadian rock band working on legendary status… and a young Canadian lady that has already done so much! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at james@bigdog.astral.com

FEFE DOBSON – GHOST

It seems like she been around a long time… and she has. She was 18 when her debut album came out in 2003. She had a second album already to go in 2006, but got dropped by her label before it came out. 4 years later… she has a new album called “Joy” in stores this July. Big Dog played “I Want You” off the record months ago. It took a while for her album to be completed. Now it’s done, and this is the next single. It’s synth-pop-rock… and there ain’t nuttin’ wrong wit dat.

OUR LADY PEACE - DREAMLAND

Single #3 off “Burn Burn”. Hi… we’re OLP…all we do is make hit rock songs. Love us. We do.

RUSH - CARAVAN

There new album “Clockwork Angels” won’t be in stores for a while. But they have released 2 new songs digitally. BU2B and this one. It’s classic Rush baby!

It’s James Cormier with 5 new songs for Dog Tunes for May 31 – June 6/10! This week… 2 big rock bands continue their dominance… a return of 2 other rock bands hoping to continue their dominance…and a once dominant rock act proclaims that he is back! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at jcormier@radioatl.ca

BUCKCHERRY – ALL NIGHT LONG

At first, I though they might be doing a cover of this Lionel Richie song. The thought simultaneously intrigued and disgusted me. But, it’s on original…and it’s an all out party rocker. The new album is also called ‘All Night Long’… in stores August 3.

DAUGHTRY - SEPTEMBER

Hey new American Idol winner Lee DeWyze! Hey past winners David Cook and Kris Allen! You’re all Chris Daughtry wannabes! Feel his wake! PS. I thought this might be a cover of the Earth, Wind, and Fire song… thankfully…it’s not.

PEARL JAM –AMONGST THE WAVES

Have you purchases the new Pearl Jam album “Backspacer”? No… that’s forgivable. Have you heard it? No? Unforgivable. It reeks of awesome!

SAVING ABEL – STUPID GIRL (ONLY IN HOLLYWOOD)

Big Dog was the first station in Canada to play their first ever single ‘Addicted’. We knew how good they were…and are. New album “Miss America” is in stores June 8th. Now…this Stupid Girl…only in Hollywood. Could they mean her…or her… nah… definitely her!

STEVE MILLER – HEY YEAH

June 15th is the arrival date of his new album ‘Bingo’. Steve is playing Halifax this weekend. Hey Yeah is the first single. After so long without new Steve Miller… hearing it feels like meeting up with an old friend… exciting, yet familiar. Yeah… Steve is like family.

It’s James Cormier with 2 new songs for Dog Tunes for May 17 –23/10! This week… a benefit song for our troops from a Nova Scotian band… and the return of rock royalty! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at jcormier@radioatl.ca

THE TREWS – HIGHWAY OF HEROES

No jokes on this one. The boys from Antigonish… The Trews return with a song reflecting their patriot goodwill in the form of “Highway of Heroes”, which discusses the return of fallen members of Canada’s armed forces serving in Afghanistan. The single will be available for purchase exclusively through iTunes starting May 18. Net proceeds from sales will benefit the Canadian Hero Fund (herofund.ca), an organization that assists the families of Canadian military personnel through academic scholarships. The song was co-written and co-produced by The Trews and Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) and was inspired by the 2006 death of Captain Nichola Goddard from The Trews’ hometown of Antigonish, who returned from duty along Canada’s Highway of Heroes, the section of the MacDonald-Cartier freeway named to honour those who have sacrificed all in service of country.

TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS – I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN IT

The fellers are back! Thank you Tom. Thank you Heartbreakers. New album ‘Mojo’ is in stores June 15th. Sorry Dini…sorry Richard… there’s only 1 Petty that matters!

It’s James Cormier with 2 new songs for Dog Tunes for May 10 –16/10! This week… another hit from a San Francisco band and… and a Hamilton band returns to the Big Dog airwaves! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at jcormier@radioatl.ca

TRAIN – IF IT’S LOVE

The band is from San Franciscotheir album is called “Save Me San Francisco”. Maybe they just needed home for a rest. More hits from Train…and this one mentions the band Winger. Why… I don’t know…but it works. I challenge them to include Yngwie Malmsteen in their next song.

THE REASON – THE LONGEST HIGHWAY HOME

A couple years back…we played their tunes “We’re So Beyond This”…and they even stopped in the studio for an interview. They are back… and I know it’s cliché…but it’s true… better than ever. What an awesome tune…from their album called “Fools”…in stores July 6. The Reason and the Arkells are both from Hamilton… maybe they shouldn’t call it Steeltown anymore…but Rocktown…or something a little more clever than that!

It’s James Cormier with 3 new songs for Dog Tunes for May 3 – 9/10! This week… another solo effort from one Canada’s premiere front men… a forgotten gem from some rock legends… and another single from Nickelback! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at jcormier@radioatl.ca

GORD DOWNIE & THE COUNTRY MIRACLES – THE EAST WIND

Gord is the lead singer of the Tragically Hip. If I needed to explain that to you, it means you are too young to know…or you’ve been living under a rock. So, young one/sub-rock inhabitant… here’s more info. It’s been 7 years since his last solo work. His new one is called “The Grand Bounce”…it’s in stores June 8th… and his backing band is called the Country Miracles.

ROLLING STONES – PLUNDERED SOUL

Remember the Stones album “Exile on Main Street”. Well, they are reissuing it May 18th with never heard before songs…and this would be one of them. First, we found an uncovered Hendrix…now an uncovered Stones… 2010 has become a classic rock gold mine!

NICKELBACK – THIS AFTERNOON

It’s from Dark Horse… it’s the 25th single… and I’m running out of clever things to say about Nickelback. Actually, I ran out about 12 singles ago.

It’s James Cormier with 4 new songs for Dog Tunes for Apr.26 – May 3/10! This week… new singles from 2 great singer-songwriters… a new Canadian band is on the scene…and Faber Drive returns! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at jcormier@radioatl.ca

JOHN MAYER feat. Taylor Swift – HALF OF MY HEART

It’s the second single off ‘Battle Studies’… and it’s good. It features Taylor Swift on background vocals. Don’t worry…they are not a couple…that would be icky. Say what you want about John Mayer… when it comes to music…he knows what he’s doing…real life… not so bright.

ROB THOMAS – MOCKINGBIRD

Another hit off ‘Cradlesong’. It’s not the kids song…or the version of the kids song that Carly Simon and James Taylor did... or even this version. Rob Thomas…all he does is write the hits… it’s all he does… he’s a machine.

DOWN WITH WEBSTER – YOUR MAN

From Toronto (don’t hold that against them). A bunch of high school friends got together and formed a band… and they encompass as many genres as possible… and with surprising effect. They have 3 vocalists… which is cool… but they have a guy called a ‘hypeman’ with a megaphone. If I knew that an untalented friend could join a band with a megaphone and be called a ‘hypeman’… well… my teen years would’ve went a lot different. Time to Win Vol.1 is the album…Vol.2 out soon.

FABER DRIVE – YOU AND I TONIGHT

Kids love Faber Drive. Take the other night. A near sold-out show at the CEC in Truro for the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation. The new album is ‘can’T kEep A SecrEt’… in stores now. A wonderful power ballad.

It’s James Cormier with 1 new song for Dog Tunes for Apr.19 – 25/10! This week… The Prince of Darkness returns! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at jcormier@radioatl.ca

OZZY OSBOURNE – LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM

First single off the new album ‘Scream’, in stores June 15. This single is the reason Slash didn’t release his song he did with Ozzy as a single. He didn’t want to tramp on this gem of a rock single. He gets older, he shakes, his speech is unintelligible, yet he rocks loud and clear. It’s baffling. His family changes… Kelly loses weightSharon downgrades her implantsJack stops drinking and writes…yet he stays the same. And we rejoice because of it. Long live the Prince of Darkness!... and when I say that…I mean Ozzy.

It’s James Cormier with 4 new songs for Dog Tunes for Apr.12 – 18/10! This week… another single from a huge album… Canadian hard rockers return… a band with an exclamation point is back…and a laid back surfer croons again! If you have any questions or comments, I always love feedback… drop me a line at jcormier@radioatl.ca

SHINEDOWN – THE CROW & THE BUTTERFLY

Can you remember the last time these guys didn’t have a song on the radio? Me neither. They just crank out goodness. This is the latest from their album “Sound of Madness”. They’re aren’t actually singing about a crow and a butterfly… it’s actually something used in language called a ‘metaphor’. What’s a metaphor? I don’t even know what a meta is? Hah! See what I did there?!.

DANKO JONES – FULL OF REGRET

I just looked at their discography. 6 albums in 7 years. That’s a lot. Love it. I know taking time to make sure things sound just right is great… but coming out with awesome rock at a more frequent rate is never a bad thing. The new album is called “Below the Belt”… watch out… it will hit you there.

AGAINST ME! – I WAS A TEENAGE ANARCHIST

“White Crosses” is the new album that will come out June 8th. They pick up where they left off… and that’s being awesome. This song is fun… but if you listen hard… it’s not as fun as you may think. I looked for songs with Anarchy in the title…found about forty… but only one other was a hit… and it was Anarchy in the UK by the Sex Pistols… so we were due for another.  I would post a link to the video of the Sex Pistols...but too many swears.

JACK JOHNSON – YOU AND YOUR HEART

If he were any more laid back…he’d be dead. He makes Jimmy Buffett look hyperactive. New album is “To The Sea”…in stores early June. Enjoy.

Hey Everybody, Chris VanTassel here with a vid that makes me giggle... The Muppets' cover of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is to be released as a digital single. The adaptation of the song has been a massive hit on YouTube, with over nine million people having watched it in little over two weeks, check it out!

Here's the Dog Tracks Vid of this week's New Music Adds for Nov 23 -29th 2009

Hey look everybody!!! It's Guns N Linkin' Park....sorta! 3 members of GNR hooked up with Chester from Linkin Park to perform Paradise City. Slash - Duff and Steven Adler is back behind the drum kit! Cool stuff - the vid is shakey but it still rocks....
